Guy Yeaman with dog

Welcome To My Site!

My name is Guy Yeaman, but my friends call me the Dog Man.

I have been working with all kinds of dogs professionally for over 50 years. In my classes I teach many different things; obedience (basic and advanced), security and guide dogs, and canine good citizen to name but a few.

I work through our local municipal recreation departments in the Reno, Tahoe, Carson City and Gardnerville/Minden areas to provide group classes. I also offer private one-on-one lessons, as well as custom designed programs where dogs (and their owners!) are specially trained to meet individual specific needs.

You will find information on all of these services and programs on this site. Use the menu at the top to go explore.

My Training Methods

There are probably as many ways to train a dog as there are dog trainers. My basic tenet is REPETITION and PRAISE. The dog is asked to do a certain behavior. He carries out the behavior and gets praised for doing so. If he doesn't do it, he is shown how to do it and then gets praised. A "good dog", accompanied with a pat or two for obeying a command, works very well, is always available and forms a positive connection between you and your dog.

Dogs are basically pack animals, but each dog is not on an equal level. There is a leader in the pack structure. In your pack (family), you are the leader. The dog is at the bottom of the pack which isn't such a bad place to be – you always treat him with love and consistency and provide him with food and shelter. In return, the dog will want to repay your leadership by doing what you ask of him.

Training Programs

Obedience Classes

My group obedience classes are available in Reno, Sparks, Carson City, Incline Village, South Lake Tahoe, Stateline and Gardnerville. Each class is one hour per week for six weeks. The cost is detailed in the class schedule below.

Requirements: All dogs must be at least 4 months of age to participate in the obedience classes and must be fully inoculated.

Private Training

I offer private training sessions to help with specific problems. Private lessons are conducted at your home or a location convenient for you, allowing me to work with your dog in the environment where behavioral issues typically occur.

Private training is ideal for addressing specific challenges such as aggression, anxiety, excessive barking, leash pulling, or other behavioral concerns. Each session is customized to your dog's unique needs and your training goals.

Cost: Pricing varies depending on the driving distance and specific training needs. Contact me to discuss your situation and receive a quote.

Inboard Training

Inboard training takes between 6 and 12 weeks. Contact me for rates.

Requirements: I ask that you attend a group obedience class either prior to or during the training period (the cost of this class is included in the fee for inboard training). This gives you the knowledge and understanding of how the dog is being trained so that you can continue with the same consistency when the dog returns home. It also gives you a chance to interact with your dog on a weekly basis during the training period.

I hold regular group classes year round in Reno, Sparks, Carson City, Gardnerville, South Lake Tahoe and Incline Village, where you and your dog can work on basic obedience and solving individual problems.
